He thus confirmed the reports circulating on social media that there had been an armed incursion into the village of Kutua, in the Odinepa administrative post.

“We confirm the attack”, said Manussa. “Houses were burnt down and the health unit was damaged. We don’t yet have any information as to whether anybody was killed or injured in the attack”.

Erati is a district on the border between Nampula and Cabo Delgado provinces. There are therefore suspicions that the Kutua raid was the work of the islamist terrorists who have been attacking Cabo Delgado since October 2017.

This is the second terrorist incident in Nampula province. The first was an incursion last June against the village of Mitopue, in Memba district.

The Secretary of State for Nampula, Mety Gondola, visited Mitopue a few days later and did not rule out the possibility that the attack was the work, not of jihadists, but of criminals using terrorism as a cover for acts of straightforward theft.
