Ibrahim Patel, of Indian origin, was kidnapped by unknown individuals, at the gate of his residence, located in the center of Chimoio, when he was returning from his workplace. According to eye-witnesses, three armed individuals forced Patel out of his car and bundled him into their own Toyota Ractis, which left the place at high speed.

The Manica provincial spokesperson of the Mozambican Police, Mateus Mindú, confirmed on Tuesday that the 60 year old Patel, has been released and returned to his family home.

Mindú did not advance further details about the rescue, or whether a ransom was paid, but promised to talk about the matter in the coming days.

“I do confirm that he has returned to his family today. I cannot advance any further details about this case because investigations are still underway to neutralize the individuals involved in this crime”, Mindú said.

“We have leads and, in a few days, we will call the press to give more details. We can't talk about it now so as not to frustrate the ongoing investigations”, he added.
