Authorities report that the affected districts include Muidumbe, Nangade, Mueda, Mocímboa da Praia, and Palma in the northern part of the country. The excessive rainfall over recent days has led to the collapse of the bridge over the Napacala River in Macomia, making land travel via the EN380 in the Awasse-Macomia administrative post impossible.

This collapse not only affects the movement of the population but also complicates the mobility of the Defense and Security Forces combating terrorist groups in the region. These forces are stationed less than a kilometer away, raising concerns among residents.

The National Roads Administration (ANE) confirmed the disruption in a statement and explained that work is underway to restore vehicle circulation by January 23.

“Meanwhile, the road connection to the northern districts can alternatively be made through the Sunate-Metoro-Momtepuez-Nairoto-Mueda route,” they added.

This alternative route, approximately 200 kilometers in length, becomes one of the busiest when terrorist groups, active in Cabo Delgado for over six years, controlled the EN380 in the Sunate-Macomia section.
