Kagame believes battle against terrorism in Cabo Delgado is 80 Per cent won
Rwandan President Paul Kagame

According to the Rwandan statesman, who was recently addressing the press in Kigali, “to a large extent, the problem has been solved. Maybe 80 per cent of the problem has been solved.”

Since July 2021, the Mozambican defense and security forces, with support from Rwanda and the Southern African Development Community Mission in Mozambique (SAMIM), have been liberating districts previously occupied by Jihadists in Cabo Delgado.

According to Kagame, the improved situation has attracted investors back to Cabo Delgado.

“I heard that investments were returning. TotalEnergies, for example, is back”, Kagame said.

To prepare for TotalEnergies’ return to liquefied natural gas projects in Cabo Delgado, the French multinational hired an expert in humanitarian issues, Christophe Rufin, to draw up a study on the security situation in that province.

According to the study, which was made public last May, there have been advances in the fight against terrorism, which has delayed billions of dollars in investments in natural gas.

The report also points to the adoption of a foundation, which will have a multi-year budget of 200 million US dollars, for local development projects.

“Of course, there may be one thing here or there that needs to be ironed out before work is fully resumed, but I think that is being enabled by such collaborative efforts around the provision of security”, Kagame explained.
