The mayor laid down this challenge on Sunday, during the ceremonies marking Pan-African Women's Day, which was celebrated under the slogan “For Gender Equality in the Context of Climate Change.”

“We must learn to live with extreme events, and to this end, we must intensify the actions of civic education of residents so that they can be prepared at the community level, with a focus on women”, the mayor said.

According to Comiche, gender equality is one of the main challenges that the city must achieve. “This is a priority in the Municipal Development Plan (PDM) for 2019-2023. The work we are doing shows that we are on the right track, since of the 2,865 municipal employees, just over 37 per cent are women”, the mayor said.

Comiche also pointed to the promotion of gender equality and equity in the various spheres of economic, social, political and cultural development, as well as the elimination of all forms of discrimination, as challenges and priorities to be achieved under the 2019-2023 municipal plan.

“The fight against gender-based violence, increasing the number of women trained to respond to existing employment opportunities and take on leadership positions, as well as social assistance to women in vulnerable situations must be the focus”, he added.

“Our commitment is to make the city promote women and their economic and social autonomy”, he stressed.
