Mozambique ranked among the top 50 most violent countries in the world

Also featured on this list is Brazil, ranking sixth among the Lusophone states.

Mozambique, improving eight positions compared to the previous classification, is currently ranked 45th.

The ACLED considers three levels in terms of the positioning of states or territories: from "Extreme" to "Turbulent," including an "Elevated" category.

Mozambique is characterized as a "Turbulent" country, while Brazil is classified in the "Extreme" category.

According to the report, Brazil's position is attributed to organized crime which, although not aiming to overthrow the government or control territory, is often involved with police forces. Violent acts in Brazil mainly target local authorities.

The NGOs compiling the report note that "conflicts are now widespread and omnipresent, with 2023 seeing a 12% increase in conflicts compared to 2022, and ACLED records more than a 40% increase compared to 2020."

The top 50 countries or territories represent 97% of all conflict events recorded in the past 12 months.
