Nyusi represents a threat to peace and democracy in Mozambique, says Renamo

Renamo is alerting the active forces of society, including jurists and the Public Prosecutor's Office, about the danger that President Filipe Nyusi represents to the peace and democracy of Mozambique.

This warning comes after Nyusi refused to promulgate and amend two laws that make up the electoral law, namely the law that establishes the legal framework for the election of the President of the Republic and Members of Parliament, and the law for the election of provincial assembly members and the provincial governor.

“We urge and call for the intervention of the active forces of the country, Africa, the world, the diplomatic corps, jurists, judicial magistrates, the Public Prosecutor's Office, and other personalities to become aware of the threat that the President of the Republic poses to democracy, peace, and the well-being of Mozambicans,” said Antonio Muchanga, a speaker at a press conference called to respond to the return of the law.

Furthermore, Renamo believes that Nyusi's refusal to promulgate the law aims to create conditions to accommodate electoral fraud by the Frelimo party in the upcoming general elections on 9 October.

However, in a statement from the Presidency, Filipe Nyusi justified this by stating that the law establishing the Legal Framework for the election of the President of the Republic, submitted to him, "raises doubts about the procedural mechanism of its application."

It should be noted that the law was approved by the parliamentary benches, including Frelimo, and required promulgation by the head of state.
