Roque Silva appointed as non-Executive Director of HCB
After a period away from the media following his resignation as Secretary-General of Mozambique’s ruling party, Frelimo, Roque Silva is being brought back in a process aimed at restoring his dignity.
Roque Silva, who held the position of Secretary-General of Frelimo until last May, has recently been introduced as the new non-executive director of Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa (HCB).
HCB is a public company in Mozambique, which operates the Cahora Bassa dam on the Zambezi River, one of the largest hydroelectric projects in Africa. The company's board of directors has been chaired by Tomás Matola since May 2023. It was this board that introduced Roque Silva to the employees as the non-executive director.
According to information obtained from a reliable source within HCB, Roque Silva joins the company to fill the position left vacant by Manuel Tomé, who passed away last March.
TORRE.News contacted Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa for clarifications, but the company referred us to the Institute for the Management of State Participation (IGEPE), claiming that this entity could provide better insights into the matter.
However, TORRE.News learned from the same source that it is the IGEPE, a government body in Mozambique, that is responsible for appointing the company's directors. Therefore, only this body could explain the reasons behind Roque Silva's appointment as a non-executive director.
Roque Silva resigned from his position as Secretary-General of Frelimo and left the party's Political Commission after failing to secure enough internal votes to support his candidacy for the October 9th presidential elections in Mozambique.
