Municipal elections – 2023: RENAMO goes to combat in the country’s main cities with “heavy candidates”
In this way, everything shows that the municipal elections in the main cities of the country will be very close, all due to the quality of the candidates that the parties are presenting, as well as the status quo of Frelimo over these years.
The Mozambican 2023 municipality elections may enter the national Guinness Book, due to the bets that the main local opposition party is taking. While RENAMO decided that its candidate is the charismatic deputy, activist and pastor Venâncio Mondlane to run for the Maputo city in South , just like the members of party Perdiz chose to keep Manuel de Araújo in the Quelimane City , by the way who is actually considered , “the greatest political individual in the Mozambican opposition” , and for the city of Beira, the region where elections are “always tense”, the members of RENAMO, determined that the candidate will be the politician Geraldo Carvalho.
Therefore, in the wake of choices, in the municipality of Matola, RENAMO will again seek to ascend to power “stolen in detail” in the last elections by Frelimo, betting on the popular deputy, António Pedro Muchanga. In the City of Tete, the chosen figure is businessman Ricardo Tomás, a politician who in previous elections always constituted a “stone around the neck” for his opponents.
Still in the range of choices for the great municipal clash of October 11, the members of RENAMO decided to once again trust Raul Novinte the desired municipality of Nacala-Porto City, in Nampula Province, who saw his re-election shaken during a last-minute turnaround, when a man of his trust, as we learned, withdrew himself from the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE) in Nacala to run against “courageous Novinte” side to side.
Meanwhile, while internal elections are taking place in all municipal districts and cities, according to internal sources, in the City of Nampula, the situation will not be the same, since Paulo Vahanle will remain the candidate of Perdiz-RENAMO, in the capital of the North, having been consensual that the same should not be replaced for this “dance” like the remaining militants and leaders are facing.
In the contrary to what is seen in other provinces of the country, it seems that in Cabo Delgado, the reality is different, with constant confusion that led the Political Commission of the Party, to send General Hermínio de Morais, or simply, General Bob, with the aim of calming down the mood and finding the right compass for the Party locally.
