THROWDOWN Family Edition gathers around 1,000 participants in Maputo in a celebration of sport and family
Maputo hosted a vibrant celebration of sport and family on 27 September 2025 with the 233THROWDOWN Family Edition, held at Campo do Repinga. This was the third edition of the event, but the first designed in a family format, attracting nearly 1,000 participants of all ages, from children to seniors, in a day filled with physical activity, entertainment and intergenerational exchange.

The event was attended by the National Director of Sports, Hélder Jossias, representing the Minister of Youth and Sports, Caifadine Manasse, and by the Councillor for Economic Activities of the Maputo Municipality, Alexandre Muianga. In his speech, Hélder Jossias stressed that the THROWDOWN Family Edition “is much more than a sporting event: it is a celebration of family, youth, health and citizenship”, adding that “Mozambican youth is the heart of our nation, and the family is its foundation”.
One of the highlights was the Throwdown Competition 2025, which rewarded athletes in several categories. In the team event, The Showdown (Sulvito Chissano, Jéssica Ubisse and António Dove) took first place, followed by The Williams Lab and Três Continentes. In the +45 individual category, Zulmaria Costa and José Sumbana emerged victorious, while among teenagers (15-17 years old), the winners were Loyd Massicane and Muhammad Mustafá. All received medals, cash prizes, sports supplements, gym vouchers and other rewards.
The day’s programme began with the “We Love MPT” run and walk, followed by a four-hour spinning marathon, open cardio boxing and Zumba classes, as well as martial arts demonstrations including Jiu-jitsu, Judo, Taekwondo, Kendo and Iaido. For children, the dedicated 233 Kids area offered games, recreational activities and a performance by the Turma da Yara.
Beyond sport, the event featured talks on child nutrition and mental health, conducted by specialists, and cultural moments, closing with a Sunset Party led by DJs Adilson and Leo.
With this edition, the THROWDOWN Family Edition has established itself as more than an athletic competition, positioning itself as a platform for promoting health, encouraging sports practice, providing entertainment for children and highlighting the family as an essential pillar of Mozambican society.
The event was organised by XperienceHub and supported by main sponsors i2A, Evolution and Hype.
