HCM denies rumors about death of third victim in double homicide of Elvino Dias and Paulo Guambe

The Maputo Central Hospital (HCM) has denied rumors circulating on social media about the alleged death of Adácia Macuácua, the young woman who was seated in the back of the vehicle transporting Elvino Dias, lawyer for presidential candidate Venâncio Mondlane, and Paulo Guambe, representative of the PODEMOS party, on the night of the double homicide that occurred on Friday (19) in Maputo.

According to Dino Lopes, Director of HCM’s Emergency Department, who spoke at a press conference today, Adácia is out of danger and is expected to be discharged from the hospital later this week. The information regarding her death is false and was spread without any basis.

The crime took place when the victims were intercepted by two Mazda BT50 vehicles, from which two individuals emerged and opened fire on their car, resulting in the deaths of Elvino Dias and Paulo Guambe, and the injury of Adácia Macuácua, who was quickly taken to Maputo Central Hospital for medical care.

In the aftermath of the protests yesterday, Dino Lopes reported that HCM received 16 patients from the clashes in Maputo, 13 of whom were men and 3 women. Some patients were transferred from Polana Caniço Hospital, but none are in critical condition, the official assured.

In the 24 hours following the double homicide, unfounded rumors emerged that Adácia had died at HCM, with claims that her family was being pressured not to disclose information. Additional false reports suggested that she had been murdered in the hospital as part of an alleged plot to eliminate witnesses. HCM categorically denied these speculations, clarifying that the young woman is recovering.
