In Pretoria: Chapo proposes new governance model for Mozambique
FRELIMO’s presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo, is currently in Pretoria, South Africa, on an official visit aimed at strengthening ties between the FRELIMO party and the ANC, as well as seeking support from his potential counterpart, should he win the upcoming October 9 elections. During his visit, Chapo was welcomed by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the South African Parliament, where they discussed mutual support and the historical relationship between the two parties.
Addressing the Mozambican community residing in South Africa, Chapo promised a renewal of Mozambique's governance model, acknowledging that current needs require fresh approaches. "We’ve been in power for nearly 50 years, and we believe it's time to change the way we do things to achieve different results," Chapo said, justifying the need for a transformation in the way the country is governed.
The candidate emphasized that the world has evolved significantly and that this evolution should be seen as an opportunity for Mozambique to make a difference. "Our mission is to love and serve others," he added, reaffirming his commitment to the people of Mozambique if elected.
This visit marks the first official meeting between Daniel Chapo and Cyril Ramaphosa, set within the broader context of strengthening bilateral relations between FRELIMO and the ANC. Chapo was accompanied by prominent party members, including Verónica Macamo and FRELIMO's Secretary-General.
