Mozambique’s Electoral Commission assures Constitutional Council on “mysterious” vote discrepancy
Mozambique’s National Election Commission (CNE) has confirmed via a press release that it has provided the Constitutional Council (CC) with explanations regarding the discrepancy in voter numbers recorded in the October 9 general elections. This statement comes in response to circulating claims that the CNE failed to clarify this discrepancy within the 72-hour deadline set by the CC.
The CNE firmly denied the accuracy of a social media post alleging that it missed the deadline to respond to the Constitutional Council’s inquiry. The electoral body described the post as an attempt to mislead public perception of the electoral process. “The CNE informs that the information circulated in the post is not accurate,” the statement read.
Previously, the Constitutional Council had requested the CNE to account for the inconsistencies in the recorded voter numbers across the three elections – Presidential, Legislative, and Provincial Assemblies – as noted in the official tally sheet of the country’s seventh general election results.
