Two Drug Dealers Sentenced To Long Prison Terms

The individuals, according to Thursday’s issue of the Maputo daily “Notícias”, used to traffic in methamphetamine.

The individuals were caught by Mozambique’s National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) with eight bowls of methamphetamine hidden in a closet in a house in Muahivire neighbourhood, in Nampula city.

The men arrested claimed that the drug had come from Maputo city but they denied that they were the owners.

In addition to the prison term, the court fined the two men three million meticais (about 47,000 US dollars, at the current exchange rate).

“The prison term counts as of the day they were detained. If they show good behaviour in prison, they may serve only half of the sentence”, said the judge in the case, Cristina Salia.

The lawyer for the two men, Rofo Naifo, said he intended to appeal, on the grounds that there was no evidence against his clients.
