General Elections 2024: Chapo wants subjects in education to build citizenship
Frelimo's presidential candidate, Daniel Chapo, says that if he wins this year's elections he will invest in education with the introduction of some essential subjects for building citizenship.
Chapo made the statement this Friday in the town of Chibuto, in the southern province of Gaza, during a rally on the second and last day of a two-day working visit to the region.
Chapo explained that building a structured society focused on promoting good will involve introducing civic and patriotic education subjects into the school curriculum.
“We are also going to continue working to improve issues related to education. Education is an important area for development, there is no development without education and we think that our young people need to know where we are coming from, where we are and where we are going. To do this, we need to introduce important subjects into education,” he said.
According to Chapo, one of the subjects is Patriotic Civic Education, so that young people first know how to distinguish good from evil because it will have ethics, it will have morals.
Children also need to be trained from an early age to know how to respect their elders, to know how to greet their elders and to distinguish good from evil, in order to avoid crime in the future.
Chapo stressed that young people need to know that being corrupt and killing is bad from a young age and that this involves education.
In another development, he said that the National Road Number One (EN1), its backbone, will deserve more attention given its importance as the lung of development.
“We need more roads in good condition, National Road Number One is one of our big bets because it's the road that connects the south, center and north, it's the backbone for developing our country so that the economy develops, grows and each of us can put money in our pockets and food on the table at home,” he said.
During his visit to Gaza, Chapo met with grassroots bodies throughout the province, namely: cells, circle committees, zones and districts, with an eye on the elections on October 9.
