If Elected: Renamo pledges to rehabilitate EN1 and build alternative road
Renamo, the largest opposition party in Mozambique, has pledged to rehabilitate the entire National Road One (EN1), the only highway connecting the south and north of the country, and to create an alternative route if it wins the upcoming October 9 elections.
The promise was made on Wednesday (28th) by Sunil Randasse, Renamo's delegate in Kampfumo Municipal District, in Mozambique’s capital, Maputo, during an interaction with potential voters at the People's Market as part of the General Elections (Presidential and Legislative) and Provincial Assemblies campaign.
Renamo is fielding its current leader, Ossufo Momade, as its presidential candidate.
“We want the national road to be in good condition, and beyond that, we need an alternative national road. This is part of our manifesto,” Randasse stated.
Randasse also promised the introduction of free education from the first grade up to the twelfth grade, ensuring that all Mozambican citizens have access to education.
“Our governance will ensure that every citizen, every child, has access to education up to the secondary level. We’re talking about education from the first to the twelfth grade,” he said.
The Renamo delegate in Kampfumo Municipal District also pledged investments in agriculture to increase productivity and improve family incomes.
“We want agriculture not just to be for subsistence or for families. We want agriculture to be mechanized and accompanied by processing industries,” he noted.
He added that the industrialization of agriculture could reduce the waste of produce due to a lack of processing and preservation mechanisms.
“We don’t want our tangerines to continue rotting in backyards. We don’t want oranges to rot but rather be transformed into juice for our children,” he said.
Renamo in Kampfumo Municipal District began its activities at the historic Central Market in downtown Maputo, before moving to the People's Market, focusing on direct interpersonal contact with the electorate.
