The body of Ahmed Ali, as he was known in life, was discovered cut up in the yard of the house where he had been held captive.

"After conducting investigations, it was possible to identify a body buried, which preliminary examinations suggest bears similar characteristics to those of the victim," states the PGR's document.

The Public Ministry has initiated proceedings against four individuals, with one now in pre-trial detention and the others absconding.

"The aforementioned suspects are indicted for the crimes of kidnapping, illegal possession of weapons, and criminal association, with the victim never returning to his family," the PGR's statement reads, noting that the group is also implicated in other similar crimes in separate cases.

Since 2011, Mozambique has experienced a wave of kidnappings, primarily targeting businesspeople and their relatives.

Authorities have detained 38 individuals involved in the kidnapping spree across the country since January 2023, with a total of 13 cases reported during the same period.

It's worth noting that two kidnappings have already been recorded in Maputo this year alone.
