Strategy or silence? RENAMO members lose faith in Ossufo Momade
Members of RENAMO in Quelimane, Zambézia province, are expressing doubts and uncertainties about the political strategy of the party's president, Ossufo Momade, for the upcoming General Elections on October 9th.
These concerns were revealed by Manuel José, President of the Municipal Assembly of Quelimane, in statements to TORRE.News, at a critical moment as the election campaign is about to begin.
"We don't know how things will play out; it might be different from what it should have been during the pre-campaign period. Probably, as the head of the list and the party president, he will position himself in the best possible way, through his advisors," José said.
He acknowledged that during the pre-campaign phase, RENAMO failed to capitalize on opportunities to engage effectively with the electorate, suggesting that Momade's silence might be part of a yet-to-be-revealed strategy.
The lack of clarity regarding Ossufo Momade's political strategy has caused unease not only among the public but also within the party's own ranks. The situation was further complicated by the recent proposal from António Muchanga, a member of the National Assembly, to replace Momade in televised debates—a suggestion that many interpreted as a reflection of internal doubts about the RENAMO president's leadership capabilities.
This silence and apparent inactivity from Momade during the pre-campaign period are already causing discomfort among party supporters, with some members openly questioning his competence to lead Mozambique. There is even speculation that Ossufo Momade may have been influenced to remain silent, possibly to facilitate an easier victory for FRELIMO in the upcoming elections.
The uncertainty surrounding RENAMO's political strategy and the lack of clear communication from its leader put the party in a delicate position, increasing doubts about the impact it may have in the October elections.
