Bafana Bafana in FIFA Qualifiers
2025 has been a good year of football for South Africa’s football team. Bafana Bafana managed to qualify for the upcoming AFCON which will take place in Morocco later this year in December. The team suffered a low point a few weeks ago in their third last FIFA Qualifier match.

The incident took place when Bafana Bafana played against Lesotho. At the time they were ahead on points in Group C of the FIFA Qualifiers and a win would have almost been enough to secure a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. But the team’s administration overlooked Teboho Mokoena’s suspension and fielded the South African football star for the match. Bafana Bafana went on to win the game 3-0 but FIFA was quick to react and penalising Bafana Bafana by taking points away and awarding it to Lesotho.
Bafana Bafana vs Zimbabwe
Qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is now a bit more complicated for South Africa. Bafana played their second last match of the FIFA qualifiers against Zimbabwe this past Friday at Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium. The match did not go according to plan for Coach Hugo Broos. Bafana dominated the match and was unlucky not a find the back of the net after full time whistle. The match ended in a draw which places them second the log in Group C. They are now behind Benin with two points on the log with only one qualifier remaining.
